Class Management

What We Believe Works Best For Our Students
o   We promote an environment of tolerance and respect for all individuals. It is important to teach our students respect for others, our materials, our classroom, and our school. Students will learn to take ownership for their own learning environment.

o   We aim to teach, support, guide, and promote learning. As educators, we are deeply invested in our students. Their success is our success and we want all students making positive gains in our classroom.

o   We are strict, yet nurturing teachers. Our main focus is to promote learning from the first bell until the last bell of the day. It is extremely important for students to come to school on-time each day. Students begin work at 8:35 sharp.

o   We believe students should be a part of the rule-making process. When students are a part of this process, they hold themselves accountable by these rules. Class rules will be discussed and decided on the first day of school.

o   We believe students learn best from each other and from themselves. Therefore, collaborative work will be encouraged in our classroom. In third grade, students will take a more active role in the learning process. Student’s thoughts and ideas will be encouraged during each lesson. This will help teach them to become “life-long learners”.

Positive Reinforcement
Our classroom environment is full of encouragement. Students receive positive reinforcement on a daily basis. Raffle tickets will be given to children who work hard, stay on task, help others, and lead by example. Tickets will be drawn each week to determine who gets to visit our classroom store. We also love to write positive notes home when a child is deserving of recognition for outstanding leadership.

Discipline:
Classroom and school rules will be well-established. These rules shall be practiced each day; if a student makes the choice to disobey these rules, there will be consequences.

  • Each student receives a daily behavior grade. This grade is based on their conduct in the class and consists on one of five letters.
  • (A = 95+, B = 85, C = 75, D = 65, F = 55)
  • Students start each morning out with an A/95 in conduct.
  • If a child makes a bad behavior choice, they will be asked to flip their card to the next letter grade.
  •  Students are required to write their daily behavior grade in their planner each day, with an explanation as to why they flipped their conduct card.
  • Parents are responsible for checking the planner and signing the planner each day.
  •  Daily behavior grades will be entered into our grade book and averaged out for quarterly conduct grades, which will reflect on student report cards.

***Please note***
Students who make mistakes are talked to about their choices and given options to improve their behavior. Children in our class almost always receive a warning before their card is flipped; unless their actions are hazardous to themselves or others.

It is extremely important that we maintain a safe and positive learning environment with limited distractions. Continuous interruptions will interfere with overall class progress. We ask for parental support in helping us achieve a successful year with our students.
